Step 1: Choose Your Courses

You are responsible for the completeness and accuracy of your registration, so become familiar with the university regulations.

To start your course selection for registration, review the Faculty section of the Calendar for information on your program requirements.

Take care with your course selection because failure to comply with Department, Faculty, and University regulations may jeopardize your promotion and graduation.

Check the course listings in Bear Tracks for the most current descriptions of the 6,500 courses offered at the U of A and make your selections.

Make a careful note of any course pre- and corequisites specified in your course choices because you are responsible for ensuring these requirements are met.

You may wish to take advantage of the 'My Planner' feature in Bear Tracks. The My Planner is an optional planning tool which helps you note the courses you might want to take throughout your degree. You can add courses to My Planner from the course catalog to start planning your future terms for the next few years. For more information on this planning tool review the the Bear Tracks User Guide and Student Video Tutorials

If you are having difficulty planning your program, you may consult staff in Faculty offices.

Are you an Open Studies student? Preapproved courses available to Open Studies students are designated in the Course Listings with the symbol. In the Fall/Winter some courses are available on a delayed registration basis only and are designated by the  symbol.

Applying for a student loan? Check the important information on student loans.

Once you have selected your courses you can go to Step 2: Build Your Draft Schedule

Changes in Regulations

The University reserves the right to make changes in regulations governing degree programs from time to time. All such changes apply to continuing and new students. Where a required course for a degree program is no longer offered, the Faculty may specify an alternate.

A student who interrupts a program and who must apply for readmission to the program will be required to comply with any new regulations upon resumption of studies.
