Archaeological Field Studies in Alberta-Bodobodo3.jpg

Department of Anthropology

CANCELLED

Dig into prehistory at the Bodo Archaeological Field School in east central Alberta. The field study is part of a multi-year research program undertaken by the U of A at one of the largest archaeological sites in Western Canada.

The Bodo Archaeological Locality, situated in an area of stabilized sand dunes, consists of numerous bison kill/processing/habitation sites, which record the story of communal bison hunting over the last 1,000 years. More recent studies suggest even older occupations in the area, with dates ranging up to ca 5,000 years ago. The multiyear research project is a partnership with local communities in the region.

This six-week field course will provide students with the hands on application of archaeological field and laboratory techniques. All studies are presented within the larger cultural, historical and natural landscape of this area of the province. Occasional field trips to other archaeological and cultural sites in the region are included.

Dates: May 25 - July 3, 2009
