Academic Excellence Scholarship Competition

The Academic Excellence Scholarship Competition offers over $14 million in scholarships ranging from $500 to $5,000.

Eligibility

To be eligible to compete for an Academic Excellence Scholarship, you must

  • be in Grade 11 as of June 15, 2009 or be in Grade 12 as of December 15, 2009.
  • have an award average of 80% or higher.
  • plan to attend the University of Alberta in September 2010.

Not only will applying for the Academic Excellence Scholarship Competition in Grade 11 put you in the running for scholarships, you may also qualify to receive special bonuses such as a free U of A gift, a guaranteed spot in residence and free U of A gear!

Apply

Applying early to the Academic Excellence competition gets you known at the University of Alberta. To do this, simply sign in as a guest on Bear Tracks, follow the links to Undergraduate Awards, and fill in your basic information.

Once you have provided us with your information, we will send you a unique Campus Computing ID (CCID) and password within five business days that you can then use to apply to our scholarship competitions. We will also add your name to our prospective student database and send you information about upcoming scholarship programs, Faculties and degree programs, the U of A Open House, and other information about the University of Alberta.

If at any time during the application process you require assistance, please use the Help button or e-mail us at awards@ualberta.ca.

Transcripts

Alberta students: We can access your transcript electronically. Be sure to include your Alberta Student Number (ASN) on your Academic Excellence application. (Your ASN is available from the Alberta Education Website.)

Non-Alberta Students: Send us an official and original School or Department of Education transcript of your Grade 11 and/or 12 final marks no later than the date indicated in the table above. Note: Interim marks are not used in the award average calculation.

Send your transcript to:

  • Mark your transcript: Attention Academic Excellence Competition.
  • Ensure that full course names, grade levels, student ID number, and your full name (as indicated on your application) are clearly indicated on your transcript.
  • If you have applied to the scholarship competition with a name other than the one appearing on your transcript, we will not be able to calculate your award average.

Notification of results

  • Earlybird deadline results available in December 2009.
  • December deadline results available in March 2010.

Cashing in

If you are selected to receive an award, your scholarship funds will be applied directly to your student account in September 2010 upon confirmation of your full-time registration at the U of A in both the Fall and Winter Terms.
