Aboriginal Student Award in Arts

Field of Study: Arts

Conditions: Awarded to students with satisfactory academic standing entering, transferring or continuing in any year of an undergraduate degree in the Faculty of Arts who are of Aboriginal descent as defined by the Constitution Act, 1982, Section 35(2) or a person(s) accepted by one of the Aboriginal peoples of Canada as a member of their community. Selection based on students experiencing financial barriers, and academic standing.

Ranjan Agarwal and Sunita Bhowmik Scholarship in Arts

Field of Study: Arts

Conditions: Awarded to a student with superior academic achievement enrolled in any year of a Bachelor of Arts Honors in the Faculty of Arts. Selection based on academic standing. Preference given to a student in a Bachelor of Arts Honors in Political Science in the Faculty of Arts.

Wendy Cassady Memorial Scholarship in Fine Arts

Field of Study: Art and Design, Drama, or Music

Patricia Clements Scholarship in Arts

Field of Study: Arts

Conditions: To be awarded annually to a student with superior academic achievement entering the second year of studies in a Bachelor of Arts degree honours or majors program. Recipient will be selected on the basis of academic standing on a full normal course load as determined by the Faculty of Arts and financial need.

Funded by: Endowed by friends, colleagues and family of Patricia Clements in honour of her ten years of service as Dean of the Faculty of Arts, 1989-1999.

Application/Nomination Procedure: Apply by September 15 to the Faculty of Arts

Edmonton Journal/Dean of Arts Award of Distinction

Field of Study: Humanities and/or Social Sciences

Conditions: To be awarded annually to a student with satisfactory academic standing of at least 3.3. Recipient must have a major in the Humanities and/or Social Sciences and be entering the second year of study in the Faculty of Arts or be transferring to a second-year Faculty of Arts program. The recipient will be chosen on the basis of academic standing and demonstrated financial need. This award is renewable for a further two years based upon the recipient achieving a grade point average of at least 3.3 in each year the award is held.

Faculty of Arts Leadership Awards

Field of Study: Arts

Conditions: To be awarded annually to students with satisfactory academic standing of 3.3 or higher who are registered in the Faculty of Arts (Fine Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences). Up to three awards will be given to students who will be registered in second year and six awards are to be given to students who will be registered in third or fourth year of their program in the Faculty of Arts. Recipients will be selected on the basis of demonstrated leadership through involvement and participation in university or community organizations, sports activities, or cultural activities and academic standing. These awards are tenable once.

Faculty of Arts Outstanding Leadership Medal

Field of Study: Arts

Conditions: To be awarded annually to a convocating student in the Faculty of Arts who demonstrates outstanding leadership skills and potential through involvement and initiative in Faculty of Arts organizations and activities. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 on the last 60 ucw taken in their program.

Fogolâr Furlan D'Edmonton Award

Field of Study: Open

Conditions: Awarded to students with satisfactory academic standing enrolled in any year of an undergraduate degree who have been accepted into the School in Cortona, Italy program through the Faculty of Arts. Selection based on academic standing and demonstrated leadership in community, university and/or extra-curricular activities.

IF Grape Memorial Scholarship

Field of Study: Faculty of Arts

Conditions: To be awarded annually to a student with superior academic achievement entering the fourth year of a degree program in the Faculty of Arts, majoring in Modern Languages and Cultural Studies. Recipient will be selected on the basis of academic standing, a demonstrated excellence in languages and/or literature, and financial need.

Johanna Houwen Memorial Award in Arts

Field of Study: Arts

Conditions: To be awarded annually to a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident with satisfactory academic standing (minimum grade point average of 3.3) entering the second year of studies in the Faculty of Arts. Recipient must have completed the first year of studies at the University of Alberta and be registered full-time in order to be eligible for this award. Recipient will be selected on the basis of academic standing with preference given to students with demonstrated financial need. This award is renewable for a further two years providing the student maintains satisfactory academic standing, has an ongoing financial need and continues studies in the Faculty of Arts.

Liu and Yang Family Award for Part-Time Students in Arts

Field of Study: Arts

Conditions: Awarded to a part-time student with a minimum GPA of 3.0 registered in an undergraduate degree in the Faculty of Arts with 3 to 6 units of course weight in each of the Fall and Winter terms, and who has previously completed a minimum of 60 units of course weight. Selection based on academic standing.

Dr John MacDonald Medal in Arts

Field of Study: Faculty of Arts - Honors

Conditions: To be awarded annually to a convocating student with overall superior academic achievement in the BA Honors program, in the Faculty of Arts. Recipient will be the student who has shown the highest distinction in scholarship.

Zita and Jack Rosen Award

Field of Study: Arts

Conditions: Awarded to a student with satisfactory academic standing who is of Aboriginal descent, as defined by the Constitution Act, 1982, Section 35 (2) or a person accepted by one of the Aboriginal peoples of Canada as a member of their community, and entering the second, third or fourth year of study in the Faculty of Arts. Selection based on academic standing, demonstrated involvement in the Aboriginal community, and financial need.

Douglas E Smith Medal in Arts

Douglas E Smith Memorial Scholarship in the Faculty of Arts

Field of Study: Arts

Conditions: To be awarded annually to one student carrying a full course load who has completed first-year studies and to one student who has completed second-year studies in the General BA program in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Alberta with the highest Grade Point Average in their respective years. Recipients are chosen on the basis of academic excellence alone.

Alison White/Faculty of Arts Honors Prizes

Field of Study: Arts

Conditions: To be awarded annually to graduands with superior academic achievement in the Honors program of the Faculty of Arts. Recipients will be students who maintain the highest GPA in the four years of their programs. One prize will be given in each of the Faculty's three disciplines (namely, the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Fine Arts) while the other two prizes will be awarded in any of the three disciplines. In no case will an Honors prize be awarded to a student with a GPA of less than 3.7.

Recipient will be selected on the basis of academic standing with preference given to students with demonstrated financial need.

Kerry Wood Memorial Award in Arts

Field of Study: Arts

Conditions: Awarded to a student with satisfactory academic standing enrolled in any year of an undergraduate degree in the Faculty of Arts who is of Aboriginal descent as defined by the Constitution Act, 1982, Section 35 (2) or persons accepted by one of the Aboriginal peoples of Canada as a member of their community.  Selection based on academic standing.  Preference given to a student with demonstrated interest in writing and who has completed at least one creative writing course.
