2002 Golden Bears Football Alumni Award

Field of Study: Open

Conditions: To be awarded annually to an undergraduate or graduate student with satisfactory academic standing (minimum grade point average of 2.0 for undergraduate students, and 3.0 for graduate students, on at least 18 units of course weight taken during the previous academic year). Entrance students are eligible if they have an admission average of at least 70%. Recipient must be a member the Golden Bears Football Team and will be chosen on the basis of excellence in football (both historically and in future potential), proven commitment to excellence as exhibited by dedication to a year-round training program, and academic accomplishments.

Harry Allen Memorial Coaching Award

Field of Study: Open

Conditions: To be awarded annually to a student with satisfactory academic standing who transferred to the University of Alberta from another post-secondary institution and is a member of a Golden Bears or Pandas athletic team fulfilling all team requirements as determined by the head coach. Recipient will be selected on the basis of academic standing, excellence in their sport, and a demonstrated interest in coaching.

Thomas Chong Memorial Award

Field of Study: Open

Conditions: To be awarded annually, one award to a Golden Bear and one award to a Panda, to students with satisfactory academic standing (on a minimum of 18 credits taken during the previous academic year) who are members of the University of Alberta Swim Team. Recipients will be selected on the basis of excellence in their sport, leadership qualities, and a demonstrated commitment to the team. Preference will be given to athletes who have competed in the sport of diving and who are not already in receipt of other financial awards (ie Jimmie Condon, Universiade, National Carding). In the event that there are no qualified applicants from the Golden Bears or Pandas Swim Team, this award may then be given to members of any other Golden Bears or Pandas Varsity Team.

Wendy Coffin Memorial Leadership and Perseverance Award

Field of Study: Open

Conditions: Awarded to a student-athlete with satisfactory academic standing entering or continuing in an undergraduate degree program who is a member of the Pandas hockey team. Recipient will be selected on the basis of leadership and perseverance shown in the sport, contributions made to the team on and off the ice, and academic standing. A student-athlete continuing in a program must have completed at least 18 units of course weight the previous year.

Bob Fedun Memorial Hockey Award

Field of Study: Open

Conditions: To be awarded annually to members of the Golden Bears Hockey Team eligible for competition in the year of the award. Recipients must have a minimum grade point average of 2.0 and have successfully completed 24 units of course weight in the previous academic year. Recipient will be selected on the basis of excellence in the sport of hockey both historically and potentially with outstanding contribution to the team on and off the ice. Preference will be given to athletes not already in receipt of other financial awards (ie Jimmie Condon, Universiade, National Carding).

FOG Foundation Volleyball Player Development Awards

Field of Study: Open

Conditions: Awarded to undergraduate students with satisfactory academic standing enrolled in the second, third or fourth year of study who are members of the Golden Bears Volleyball Team and who have achieved a minimum grade point average of 2.0 on a minimum of 18 units of course weight in the previous academic year. Selection based on past excellence and future potential in the sport of volleyball, as well as outstanding contribution to the team on and off the court. Preference given to athletes that have not received other financial awards (ie Universiade '83, Jimmie Condon, National Carding).

Funded by: Annually funded by the FOG Foundation to encourage and financially assist elite male volleyball athletes in the pursuit of their academic and athletic careers at the University of Alberta.

Margo Fraser Memorial Award for Panda Athletes

Field of Study: Open

Conditions: Awarded to student-athletes with satisfactory academic standing entering or continuing in a degree program who are members of a Pandas athletic team. Recipients will be selected on the basis of the level of excellence shown in the sport, the potential shown to develop as a significant contributor to the Pandas program, contributions made to their sport on and off the field, demonstrated leadership potential shown both on and off the field, and academic standing. Recipient will be selected on the basis of the amount of volunteer experience completed related to athletic therapy or athletic training, the pursuit of professional development beyond the degree program relative to athletic therapy/training and a demonstrated interest in the sport of football and the care of its participants. In the event that no eligible candidate can be found in the area of football, this award can then be given on the basis of the above criteria to an athletic trainer in any other varsity sport.

Steele's Crossing Scholarship

Field of Study: Faculty of Science

Conditions: Awarded to a student with superior academic achievement enrolled in an undergraduate program in the Faculty of Science who is a member of the Golden Bears or Pandas swimming team and has competed in the Canada West Championship (or equivalent) in both of the past two years. Should a suitable candidate not be found, the Steele's Crossing Award will be given in place of the Steele's Crossing Scholarship. **Note: If a suitable candidate cannot be found in the Faculty of Science for either the scholarship or the award, it may be given to a student in the following priority provided the student meets all other criteria, with the Steele's Crossing Scholarship to be considered first: 1. Faculty of Graduate Studies (with a focus in Science), 2. Faculty of Engineering, 3. Faculty of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences or Nursing

Field of Study: Open

Conditions: To be awarded annually to undergraduate or graduate students with satisfactory academic standing who are members of a Golden Bears or Pandas athletic team and who fulfill all team requirements as required by CIAU and their head coach. Recipients will be chosen on the basis of academic standing (a minimum grade point average of 2.0 on a minimum of 18 credits taken during the previous academic year) and excellence in their sport.

Conditions: To be awarded annually to an undergraduate or transfer student with satisfactory academic standing who is a member of the Golden Bears Basketball team and fulfills all team requirements as determined by the head coach. Recipient will be chosen on the basis of academic standing (minimum grade point average of 2.0 on at least 18 units of course weight taken during the previous academic year) and excellence in basketball. Preference will be given to students registered in the Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation
