Alberta Society of Professional Biologists Undergraduate Award

Field of Study: Biological Sciences

Conditions: Awarded to students with a minimum GPA of 3.0 entering the third year of an undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences, who have successfully completed Biology 298. Selection based on academic standing and the quality of the submitted research summary.

The Luc Barton Memorial Scholarship in Science

Field of Study: Science (Plant Biology)

Conditions: Awarded to a student with superior academic achievement enrolled in the third or fourth year of an undergraduate degree in the Faculty of Science with a major in Plant Biology. Selection based on academic standing. Preference given to a student with a strong interest in music performance.

Dr. Ramesh Bhambhani & WH Freeman Scholarship for Excellence in Genetics

Field of Study: Genetics

Conditions: Awarded to a student with superior academic achievement entering the second, third, or fourth year in a BSc Honours or Specialization program in Genetics in the Department of Biological Science, with superior academic performance in any 100-level English course. Selection based on academic standing.

Laurence and Cec Chevalier Undergraduate Scholarship in Plant Biology

Field of Study: Biological Sciences

Conditions: To be awarded annually to a student with superior academic achievement entering the third or fourth year of studies in Biological Sciences in an honors or specialization program in Plant Biology. Recipient will be selected on the basis of academic standing.

Genetics Student Award

Field of Study: Science

Conditions: Awarded to students with satisfactory academic standing convocating with an undergraduate degree from the Faculty of Science with an Honors or Specialization in Molecular Genetics. Selection based on academic standing.

Henry Hearn Memorial Scholarship in Plant Biology

Field of Study: Plant Biology

Conditions: To be awarded annually to a student with superior academic achievement entering the third or fourth year of the BSc Honors or Specialization Program in Plant Biology. Recipient will be selected on the basis of academic standing. If no appropriate student can be found in the Plant Biology Program, the Department will consider nominating a student with superior academic achievement who is focusing his/her studies on plants within the broader framework of other Honors & Specialization Programs within Biological Sciences such as Ecology, Evolutionary Biology, Molecular Genetics, or Physiology & Developmental Biology. Such a nomination will require a statement written by the student (1 page maximum) documenting how his/her program and activities reflect a special commitment to the study of plants.

Lakshmi Memorial Scholarship

Field of Study: Plant Biology

Conditions: To be awarded annually to a student with superior academic achievement entering the third year of the BSc Honors or Specialization program in Plant Biology. Recipient will be chosen on the basis of academic standing. Field of Study: Faculty of Science - Department of Biological Sciences

Conditions: Awarded to students enrolled in any year of study for a Bachelor of Science in the Molecular Genetics stream with superior academic achievement in Biology 499. Selection based on the best presentation of a research project in Biology 499, selection is based on the oral and/or written component of the presentation.

Bill Paranchych Memorial Scholarship in Cell Biochemistry

Field of Study: Biochemistry

Conditions: Award to a student with superior academic achievement entering fourth year Honors or Specialization in Biochemistry. Selection based on academic standing. Recipients will not be in receipt of another major award.

Field of Study: Microbiology

William Rowan Memorial Scholarship

Field of Study: Ecology, Evolutionary Biology, or Physiology and Developmental Biology who are doing studies in Animal Biology

Conditions: To be awarded annually to students with superior academic achievement entering the fourth year of the Honors Biology program in the area of Ecology, Evolutionary Biology, or Physiology and Developmental Biology. Recipients will be selected on the basis of academic standing.

Dr David Schindler Undergraduate Scholarship in Environmental Science

Field of Study: Environmental Sciences

Conditions: Awarded to a student with superior academic achievement entering fourth year Honours or Specialization in an Environmental Science degree who is considering graduate studies in an environmental science field. Recipient will be selected on the basis of academic achievement. Preference will be given first to a student entering fourth year Honors or Specialization in Ecology and second to a student entering fourth year Honors or Specialization in Environmental Earth Sciences. In the event an eligible student is not found in the Faculty of Science, a student meeting the same qualifications, entering fourth year Honors or Specialization in Environmental and Conservation Sciences in the Faculty of Agriculture, Life & Environmental Sciences may be considered.
