Glen Bigam Memorial Scholarship

Field of Study: Chemistry

Conditions: Awarded to a student who is an Alberta resident with superior academic achievement entering the second year of study for a Bachelor of Science with an Honors or Specialization in Chemistry. Selection based on academic standing.

Canadian Society for Chemistry Prize in Chemistry

Field of Study: Chemistry

Conditions: Awarded to the student who obtains the highest standing in the work of third year Honors Chemistry provided that such student's record is otherwise satisfactory to the Science Faculty Council.

Funded by: The Canadian Society for Chemistry. The donor will provide the medal and certificate directly to the student.

Chemistry 400 Prize

Field of Study: Chemistry

Conditions: Awarded to a student with superior academic achievement entering the fourth year of a Bachelor of Science in the Faculty of Science with an Honors or Specialization in Chemistry who is enrolled in INT D 400 (Internship Capstone). Selection based on academic standing in INT D 400. In the event of a tie, preference will be given to a student with superior oral and written presentation skills.

Chemistry 401 Prize

Field of Study: Chemistry

Conditions: Awarded to a student with the highest academic achievement in an undergraduate course in CHEM 401 (Introduction to Chemical Research) who is enrolled in a Bachelor of Science with an Honors or Specialization in Chemistry. Selection based on academic standing. In the event of a tie, preference will be given to a student with superior oral and written presentation skills.

Gilead Sciences Prize in Carbohydrate Chemistry

Field of Study: Chemistry

Conditions: To be awarded annually to a student with superior academic achievement entering third or fourth year Honors or Specialization Chemistry who has achieved the highest average in Chemistry 363. Recipients will be selected on the basis of academic standing in Chemistry 363, and preference will be given to a student who has indicated an interest in Carbohydrate Chemistry.

Gilead Sciences Undergraduate Scholarship in Organic Chemistry - Renewable

Field of Study: Chemistry

Conditions: To be awarded annually to a student with superior academic achievement entering second year Honors or Specialization Chemistry who has demonstrated a continuing interest in organic chemistry. Recipients will be chosen on the basis of academic standing. This award is renewable for a further two years provided the student maintains first-class standing.

Gold Medal in Chemistry

Field of Study: Chemistry

Conditions: To be awarded annually to the convocating student from the Honors or Specialization programs in Chemistry who has the highest average in courses credited towards the degree. Minimum required average is 3.7.

Guardian Chemicals Scholarship in Chemistry

Field of Study: Chemistry

Conditions: To be awarded annually to the student with superior academic achievement entering the third or fourth year of studies in Honors or Specialization Chemistry who has the best average in the preceding year. Recipients will be selected on the basis of academic standing and may not have received another major award.

Fred H Irwin Memorial Prize in Organic Chemistry

Field of Study: Chemistry

Conditions: Awarded to the student making the best record in CHEM 361 and CHEM 363.

Funded by: Endowed by Mr and Mrs Leslie H Irwin in memory of their son, Flying Officer FH Irwin, who lost his life March 19, 1945, while on operations.

LB Smillie Book Prize

Field of Study: Biochemistry

Conditions: Award to a student with superior academic achievement enrolled in a undergraduate or graduate degree in Biochemistry. Selection based on highest academic standing in Biochemistry 420 or 520.

Lehmann Prize in Chemistry

Field of Study: Chemistry

Conditions: Awarded to the student making the best record in Chemistry 102, provided such student's record is otherwise satisfactory to the Faculty Council.

Funded by: Endowed through a bequest from the Estate of the late Dr Alf Lehmann, formerly Head of the Department.

Morgan-Scraba Biochemistry Prize

Field of Study: Biochemistry

Conditions: Awarded to a student with superior academic achievement convocating with an Honors in Biochemistry. Selection based on highest distinction based on the convocation average.

Herbert E Morris Scholarship in Chemistry

Field of Study: Chemistry

Conditions: To be awarded to a student of outstanding merit entering final year of the Honors Chemistry or Specialization Chemistry program.

Funded by: Endowed by Mrs Morris in memory of her husband, a graduate of this university.

Dr Robert Schutte Award in Science

Field of Study: Chemistry

Conditions: Awarded to a student with satisfactory academic standing entering the second, third, or fourth year of a Specialization in Chemistry or Honours in Chemistry. Selection based on demonstrated curiosity, creativity, and passion for science (e.g., by participating in Outreach activities such as Open House or extra laboratory activities), and academic standing. Preference will be given to a student not receiving a scholarship in Chemistry during the same academic year.
