The following scholarships are part of the Faculty/Department Scholarship Competition.

Alberta Dental Association and College Awards

Field of Study: Dentistry

Conditions: Awarded to students with satisfactory academic standing who have completed year one, two or three of a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. Selection based on academic standing. The number of awards will be divided equally among all three years.

Albert Bodnarchuk Award in Dentistry

Field of Study: Dentistry

Conditions: To be awarded annually to a student with satisfactory academic standing entering the second, third or fourth year of studies in the DDS degree program in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. Recipient will be selected on the basis of academic standing, with preference being given to students who have worked in another discipline prior to entering the Faculty.

Dr Michael Boykowich Memorial Scholarship in Dentistry

Field of Study: Dentistry

Conditions: Awarded to students with superior academic achievement enrolled in any year of a Doctor of Dental Surgery. Selection based on academic standing.

Funded by: Endowed by Eleanore Romanow, daughter of the late Dr Michael Boykowich, first dentist of Ukrainian descent in Saskatchewan

Cecil MacMillan Compton Memorial Award

Field of Study: Dentistry

Conditions: To be awarded to a student completing third year in the Department of Dentistry who has shown outstanding clinical achievement in Removable Prosthodontics. The recipient shall be a resident of Northern Alberta (greater Edmonton and north).

Arthur D Cumming Scholarships

Field of Study: Dentistry

Conditions: To be awarded annually to two students with superior academic achievement entering the second, third or fourth year in the Department of Dentistry. Recipients will be selected on the basis of academic standing and indicated financial need.

Dental Alumni Association Award

Field of Study: Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry - Dentistry

Conditions: Awarded to students continuing in any year in the Department of Dentistry who demonstrate all-round leadership in student activities, character development, and academic achievement. Recipients of the Dental Alumni Association Scholarship or the James McCutcheon Honor Award are ineligible for this award.

Dental Alumni Association Scholarship

Field of Study: Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry - Dentistry

Conditions: Awarded to students with superior academic achievement in any year of the DDS degree program. Recipients will be selected on the basis of academic achievement. Recipients of the Dental Alumni Association Prize or the James McCutcheon Honor Award are ineligible for this award.

Dr Nick Douvis and Family Award in Dentistry

Field of Study: Dentistry

Conditions: Awarded to a student with satisfactory academic standing entering any year of a Doctor of Dental Surgery. Selection based on academic standing. Primary preference given to a student from Medicine Hat. Secondary preference given to a student from: Lethbridge, Brooks, Bow Island, Taber, or Bassano. Tertiary preference given to a student from rural Alberta.

MH Garvin Scholarships in Dentistry

Field of Study: Dentistry

Conditions: Awarded to students with satisfactory academic standing enrolled in or convocating from a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree to encourage study or research. Selection based on academic standing, indicated financial need and demonstrated professional and personal qualifications.

Funded by: Endowed by The Western Canada Dental Society has established a fund at The University of Alberta.

KW Hinkelman Award

Field of Study: Dentistry

Conditions: To be awarded annually to a DDS student completing the penultimate year of the program, based on satisfactory academic standing, character, and camaraderie.

Dr Stanley S Kucey Leadership Award

Field of Study: Dentistry

Conditions: Awarded to a student with satisfactory academic standing who is entering or has completed the 4th year in the Dentistry program. Recipient will be selected on the basis of outstanding skill in the clinical training courses, demonstrated leadership in the community, and academic standing.

Herb Link Memorial Award

Field of Study: Dentistry

Conditions: To be awarded annually to a student completing the first year in the Department of Dentistry on the basis of satisfactory academic standing who may be expected to make a distinguished contribution to the dental profession and community and displays strong leadership and sportsmanship abilities. Preference will be given to a student in financial need.

Funded by: Endowed by colleagues, friends and family in memory of Herb Link a popular Edmonton dentist who was rapidly emerging as a community leader in Edmonton at the time of his death.

Dr Douglas MacDougall Leadership Award in Fourth Year Dentistry

Conditions: Awarded to students with satisfactory academic standing enrolled in the fourth year of a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. Selection based on academic standing and demonstrated leadership, community engagement, volunteerism and/or involvement in extracurricular activities.
