The following scholarships are part of the Faculty/Department Scholarship Competition.

Alberta Retired Teachers Association Award

Field of Study: Education

Conditions: To be awarded annually to a student with satisfactory academic standing of at least 3.0 who has completed the Introductory Professional Term within an undergraduate degree program in the Faculty of Education. Recipients will be selected on the basis of demonstrated excellence in the student teaching experience and academic standing. Preference will be given to students who have shown excellence and an ongoing commitment to working with young people in either paid or volunteer positions (ie coaching, youth groups, tutoring, mentoring etc).

Alpha Chapter Delta Kappa Gamma Society International Memorial Award

Field of Study: Education

Conditions: To be awarded annually to a student with satisfactory academic standing completing the third year of the Bachelor of Education program and proceeding into fourth year in the immediate next session. Recipient will be selected on the basis of academic standing.

Margaret Ann Brine Scholarship in Music Education

Field of Study: Music Education

Conditions: Awarded to a continuing or convocating student with superior academic achievement in the Bachelor of Education program with a major in Music. Selection based on academic standing.

Funded by: Endowed by the Edmonton Musical Club upon its dissolution in 1973.

Dean's Undergraduate Citations in Education - Renewable

Field of Study: Education

Conditions: Awarded to a student entering the Bachelor of Education degree program at the University of Alberta, from a faculty other than Education or from another post-secondary institution. Selection is based on superior academic achievement (minimum GPA of 3.8 or equivalent). Renewal of funding for subsequent years is contingent upon achieving a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a minimum 24 credits over the most recent September to April period in the Faculty of Education each year.

Education Alumni Scholarship

Field of Study: Education

Conditions: Awarded to a student with superior academic achievement enrolled in the Bachelor of Education degree program who have completed the Advanced Practicum Term portion of their program. Recipients will be selected on the basis of academic achievement. Preference will be given to the student who has shown excellence in, and an ongoing commitment to, working with young people in either paid or volunteer positions such as coaching, youth groups, tutoring, mentoring, etc.

Funded by: Endowed by donations from Faculty of Education Alumni.

Application/Nomination Procedure: Submit a resume, cover letter and reference letters outlining award qualifications to the Undergraduate Student Services Selection Committee (1-107 Ed North) by May 1st.

Education Society of Edmonton Undergraduate Scholarship

Field of Study: Education

Conditions: Awarded to a student with superior academic achievement entering the fourth year of a Bachelor of Education program. Recipient will be selected on the basis of academic achievement, leadership potential, and promise of professional competence.

Education Students' Association Citizenship Award

Field of Study: Education

Conditions: Awarded to a student with satisfactory academic standing entering the second, third, or fourth year of study for a Bachelor of Education. Selection based on outstanding leadership in Education as demonstrated through volunteering in education related settings that contribute to the wider community, and positive contributions to student life through campus volunteer activities. Recipients are eligible to receive this award once in their academic career.

Education Students' Association Leadership Award

Field of Study: Education

Conditions: Awarded to a student with satisfactory academic standing enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in the Faculty of Education. Recipient will be selected on the basis of demonstrated leadership through participation in volunteer activities on campus and in the wider community that reflect positively on the Faculty of Education. Preference will be given to students who are not members of the Education Students' Association Council. Recipients are eligible to receive this award once in their academic career.

Fellows Family Award in Education

Field of Study: Education

George Knowles Family Aboriginal Student Award in Education

Field of Study: Open

Conditions: Awarded to students who are First Nation, Inuit, or M├ętis people of Canada in accordance with the Constitution Act, 1982, Part 2, Section 35(2) with satisfactory academic standing enrolled in any year of an undergraduate degree in the Faculty of Education. Selection based on academic standing.

Funded by: Endowed by George Knowles, `72 MBA, who wants to encourage students to return to their home communities upon completion of the Bachelor of Education degree

Allan and Colleen Lefever Leadership Award

Field of Study: Education

Conditions: Awarded to an undergraduate student with satisfactory academic standing entering the third or fourth year of the Bachelor of Education in the Elementary or Secondary Education program, specializing in social studies. Recipient will be selected on the basis of demonstrated leadership through involvement and participation in university or community organizations, and academic standing. Preference will be given to Alberta residents from outside the cities of Edmonton and Calgary.

Dr Murray MacDonald Memorial Award

Field of Study: Education

Conditions: To be awarded annually to a student with satisfactory academic standing entering the fourth year of studies in the Faculty of Education, studying Art Education. Recipient will be selected on the basis of academic standing and a demonstrated creativity in art and teaching.

Funded by: Endowed by Ruth MacDonald-McRae and her husband John McRae in memory of her father, Murray MacDonald, a former teacher at the University of Alberta.

Massing Family Scholarship

Field of Study: Education

Conditions: To be awarded annually to an Alberta resident with superior academic achievement entering the second, third or fourth year in the Faculty of Education in any discipline. Recipient will be selected on the basis of academic standing.

Matthew McCauley Memorial Prize in Education

Field of Study: Education

Conditions: To be awarded annually to a student with superior academic achievement enrolled in the first, second, or third year of studies in the Faculty of Education who is a graduate of an Edmonton high school. Recipient will be selected on the basis of academic standing and leadership qualities as demonstrated by community involvement and extracurricular activities.

Funded by: Endowed by the family and friends of the late Matthew McCauley, a founding trustee and first chairman of the Edmonton Public School Board. Historians proclaimed him Father of the Edmonton School System.

Sgt. George R. Miok Memorial Scholarship

Field of Study: Education

Conditions: Awarded to students with superior academic achievement entering the third or fourth year of study in the Faculty of Education. Selection based on academic standing. Preference given to students who are serving or have served in the Canadian Armed Forces or Reserves.

John Harold Louis Moreau Scholarship

Field of Study: Education

Conditions: To be awarded annually to students with superior academic achievement who are bilingual in Canada's official languages and have completed the APT portion of their program in the Faculty of Education. Recipients will be selected on the basis of academic standing and must demonstrate oral and written proficiency in French and English. The recipients must successfully complete at least one course in the methods of teaching English or French as a second language (see Department for list of eligible courses). Preference will be given to students who have declared Second Languages: French as their major/minor, and who intend to teach in both official languages of Canada, French and English, upon convocation.

Field of Study: Education

Steve and Olga Onusko Memorial Scholarship

Field of Study: Elementary Education

Conditions: To be awarded annually to a student on the basis of superior academic achievement and demonstrated leadership in 300 or 400 level required courses in the Elementary Education route, Faculty of Education.

Application/Nomination Procedure: Prepare a cover letter outlining your qualifications in relation to the award criteria and include two references from Faculty of Education instructors who can attest to your demonstrated leadership in their course. Helen Jeannette Raver Memorial Scholarship in Education

Field of Study: Education

Conditions: Awarded to a student with superior academic achievement entering the fourth year of studies in the Bachelor of Education or the Bachelor of Education/Bachelor of Science degree program. Recipient will be selected on the basis of academic standing.

Don Wright Scholarship in Music Education

Field of Study: Practical Instrumental Arranging

Conditions: To be awarded annually to a full-time student working toward the Bachelor of Education degree with a Music Major or Minor who has demonstrated a talent and achievement in the field of practical instrumental arranging and orchestration, with particular reference to music education.

Don Wright Scholarship in Music Education

Field of Study: Vocal and Choral Music

Conditions: To be awarded annually to a full-time student with superior academic achievement working towards the Bachelor of Education degree with a Music Major or Minor, or the combined Bachelor of Music/Bachelor of Education program, who has demonstrated a special aptitude for vocal and choral music and the teaching of the same, especially in grades 5 to 9 (the changing voice).
