Conditions: Awarded annually to a student of outstanding merit in MATH 117 and 118, provided that the student's record is otherwise satisfactory to the Faculty Council.

I M May Denham Memorial Scholarship in Mathematics

Field of Study: Mathematics

Conditions: To be awarded annually to an undergraduate student with superior academic achievement entering or continuing in any year of the specialization programs offered by the Department of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences. The recipient will be chosen on the basis of academic standing. In the event that two students are deemed to be equally deserving for this scholarship preference will be given to students in financial need, and/or in the combined specialization in mathematics and finance program. Such preference will be at the discretion of the Department Council.

Department of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences Academic Excellence Scholarships

Field of Study: Mathematics or Statistics

Conditions: Awarded annually on the basis of superior academic achievement to students entering the honors or specialization program in Mathematics or Statistics at the University of Alberta. Recipients will be selected on the basis of Grade 11 and/or Grade 12 final marks. Factors that may be considered in selection include exceptional mathematical ability, performance in mathematics courses and mathematics competitions, articles in school or other magazines and organization of mathematical activities.

Thorleif M Fostvedt Scholarship in Mathematics

Field of Study: Mathematics

Conditions: Awarded to students with superior academic achievement entering the second, third, or fourth year of an undergraduate degree in Mathematics and Finance in the Department of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences. Selection based on academic standing. Preference given to students who are not in receipt of another major award.

Murray Thomas Gibson Memorial Scholarships in Mathematics

Afzal A. Khan Outstanding Achievement in Mathematics Scholarship

Field of Study: Mathematical Sciences

Conditions: Awarded to a student with superior academic achievement continuing in the second, third or fourth year of study in the Department of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences with an honors or specialization in mathematics. Selection based on academic standing in Mathematics courses of the prior year of study. Recipient must not have received other awards in the field of Mathematics in the same year.

Funded by: In loving memory of our dear father, Mr. Afzal A. Khan, P.Eng., who had a mastery of mathematics. It was his hobby, his passion and his legacy.

Murray S Klamkin Prize in Elementary Geometry

Field of Study: Elementary Geometry

Conditions: To be awarded annually to an undergraduate student with superior academic achievement in MATH 241, MATH 243, MATH 341, or MATH 343, provided the student's academic record is otherwise satisfactory in the year of the award. Recipient will be selected on the basis of academic standing in the courses noted above.

Conditions: Awarded in odd-numbered years to a student with superior academic achievement convocating from either the Specialization or Honors program in Mathematical or Statistical Sciences. Recipient will be the student with the highest academic achievement in the final two years of studies.

Field of Study: Mathematics

Conditions: To be awarded annually to an undergraduate student who has shown outstanding academic ability in Number Theory, as judged by the performance in at least one Number Theory course, and whose academic record is otherwise satisfactory. This award may be given to a convocating student.
