AHEA Florence Hallock Memorial Scholarship

Field of Study: Human Ecology in Education

Conditions: Offered annually to a student with superior academic achievement entering their last year in the Faculty of Education with a major in Career and Technology Studies (Human Ecology or Human Sciences).

Funded by: Endowed by The Alberta Human Ecology and Home Economics Association, Edmonton Branch.

Alberta Business Education Association Scholarship

Field of Study: Business Education

Conditions: Awarded annually to a student majoring in the Secondary Education Route majoring in Career and Technology Studies, Business, Administration, and Finance who has completed 30 units of course weight. The award is based on superior academic achievement and preference will be given to those who are members of the Alberta Business Education Association.

Michele Nobuko Aoki Secondary Education Memorial Award

Field of Study: Secondary Education (Biology Education)

Conditions: To be awarded annually to a senior undergraduate student in the Secondary Route of the Bachelor of Education or Teacher Certification Program majoring in Biology who, judged by Biology Education professors in the Department of Secondary Education, shows outstanding potential to contribute to the improvement of biology teaching in secondary schools. Selection will be based on a combination of good scholarship and promise of excellence in teaching shown in professionally related activities such as the integrated curriculum and instruction courses in biology education. This award may be given to full or part-time students as well as convocating students.

V Nelson Ayres Memorial Scholarship in Career and Technology Studies

Field of Study: Career and Technology Studies

Conditions: To be awarded annually to a full-time student with superior academic achievement enrolled in any year of the Secondary Education Route with a major in Career and Technology Studies. Recipients will be chosen on the basis of academic standing and contributions made to student life through department and faculty activities. Preference given to students with a valid journeyman certificate. Students may not receive both the Gordon Nicolson Memorial Award and the V Nelson Ayres Memorial Award in the same year.

Funded by: Endowed through a gift to the University by Mrs Gwendolin Ayres, widow of the late Mr V Nelson Ayres.

V Nelson Ayres Memorial Scholarship in Career and Technology Studies: Technology Education

Field of Study: Career and Technology Studies: Trades, Manufacturing, and Transportation

Conditions: To be awarded annually to a full-time student with superior academic achievement enrolled in any year of the Secondary Education Route with a major in Career and Technology Studies: Trades, Manufacturing, and Transportation. Recipients will be chosen on the basis of academic standing and contributions made to student life through department and faculty activities. Students may not receive both the Gordon Nicolson Memorial Award and the V Nelson Ayres Memorial Award in the same year.

Pauline Dianne Beauchamp Memorial Award in Education

Field of Study: Biology Education

Conditions: Awarded to a student with satisfactory academic standing enrolled in any year of an undergraduate degree program in Secondary Education, majoring in Biology. Recipient will be selected on the basis of academic standing and demonstrated financial need.

Vijay Bhardwaj Peace Education Scholarship

Field of Study: Secondary Education

Conditions: To be awarded annually to a full-time student with superior academic achievement registered in the Secondary Route of the Bachelor of Education degree program with a major or minor in Social Studies or a minor in Religious and Moral Education. Recipient will be selected on the basis of academic standing and community involvement demonstrating a commitment to peace.

Funded by: Endowed by Mrs Jagjeet Bhardwaj and the family and friends of Mr Vijay Bhardwaj through the Mahatma Gandhi Canadian Foundation for World Peace. Mr Bhardwaj, the first Chair of the Foundation, held an LLB and an LLM from Benares Hindu University in India and an LLM from the University of California (Berkeley). He held a position with the Institute of Law Research and Reform at the Faculty of Law, University of Alberta before becoming the Legal Counsel with the Office of the Chief Judge of Alberta.

Earl Buxton Memorial Scholarship

Field of Study: English Language Arts Education

Conditions: To be awarded annually on the basis of academic standing to a student completing the second or third year of the secondary route of the BEd Program, who is majoring in the teaching of English.

Ken and Patricia Cleall Scholarship in Music Education

Field of Study: Faculty of Education-Music

Conditions: Awarded to a student with superior academic achievement enrolled in any year of an undergraduate degree in Secondary Education with a major in Music in the Faculty of Education. Selection based on academic standing.

Lianne Hanson Memorial Award in Education

Field of Study: Secondary Education

Conditions: Awarded to a student with satisfactory academic standing entering the second or third year of a Bachelor of Education (Secondary Route) with a major or minor in English Language Arts. Selection based on academic standing and demonstrated volunteerism.

Betty Luka Memorial Award in Education

Field of Study: Education majoring in Home Economics

Conditions: To be awarded annually to a student majoring in Human Ecology or Human Sciences who is entering the fourth year in the Faculty of Education. Recipients must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0. Selection will be based on academic standing with preference given to students in financial need.

M Choy Community Involvement Award in Education

Field of Study: Education

Conditions: Awarded to a student with satisfactory academic standing enrolled in the third or fourth year of a Bachelor of Education Secondary Route with a major in Secondary Languages or a minor in English as a Second Language. Selection based on academic standing and demonstrated community involvement. Preference given to a student enrolled in Bachelor of Education Secondary Route with a minor in English as a Second Language.

Gordon Nicolson Memorial Scholarship in Career and Technology Studies

Field of Study: Career and Technology Studies

Conditions: Awarded to a full-time student with superior academic achievement enrolled in any year of the Secondary Education Route with a major in Career and Technology Studies. Selection based on academic standing and contributions made to student life through Department and Faculty activities with preference given to a student with a valid journeyman certificate. Student may not receive both the Gordon Nicolson Memorial Award and the V Nelson Ayres Memorial Award in the same year.

Joyce Luciak Pirnak Leadership Award

Field of Study: Secondary Education

Conditions: Awarded to an undergraduate student with satisfactory academic standing enrolled in any year of the Bachelor of Education program, Secondary Route. Recipients will be selected on the basis of demonstrated community involvement, self-initiative, passion for teaching, and a commitment to working with diverse learners at the secondary level.

Hazel Alberta Robinson Memorial Award

Field of Study: Secondary Education

Conditions: Awarded to students with a GPA of 3.3 or greater in a Bachelor of Education who were enrolled in Secondary Education (EDSE) or Elementary/Secondary (EDES) courses during the previous academic year. Recipients will be selected on the basis of demonstrated creative writing ability and academic standing. The recipient must have a GPA of 3.3 or greater in the courses.

Teresa E Saley Memorial Award

Field of Study: Social Studies

Conditions: Awarded to a student with satisfactory academic standing entering the third or fourth year of an undergraduate degree program in Secondary Education in the Faculty of Education majoring in Social Studies. Recipient will be selected on the basis of academic standing, demonstrated passion for teaching, and potential for excellence in the student teaching practicum.

Dr Harry T Sparby Undergraduate Scholarship

Field of Study: Secondary Education

Conditions: Awarded to students with superior academic achievement entering any year of undergraduate study in the Secondary Education program. Selection based on academic standing. Preference given to students with a major or minor in Mathematics, Sciences or Second Languages.

Funded by: Endowed through a bequest by the Cynthia Irene Sparby Estate.

Guy and Vanna Tessier Secondary Education Award

Field of Study: Secondary Education

Conditions: To be awarded annually to a convocating student in the secondary route of the Bachelor of Education program who shows outstanding potential to contribute to the improvement of secondary education teaching in Alberta. Selection will be based on a combination of academic standing, student teaching reports and recommendations, advisor's recommendations, and commitment to teaching shown through professionally related activities.
