Who We Are
We are an innovative Faculty that has been serving students and launching careers since 1908. Our 49,000 plus alumni make an important difference in communities everywhere and contribute to our cultural lives. And they enjoy interesting careers in every sector of the economy, including the oil and gas sector, business, government, IT, education and in non-profit organizations.
The Faculty of Arts is a strong partner and research contributor to the University of Alberta, in part because of our size — we are one of the largest Faculties on campus.
What We Do
The Faculty of Arts supports your learning and curiosity by offering almost 900 distinct courses. We empower your career with undergraduate, master's, and PhD degrees, as well as a range of certificate programs to complement your skills and aspirations. The varied disciplines covered by these degrees are grouped into four broad areas of study:
Within the four areas of study we offer more than 60 areas to focus on, ranging from industrial design to economics. Our undergraduate degrees offer opportunities for experiential, hands-on learning, which includes paid work terms, research scholarships, entrepreneurial ventures, community-based experiences and study abroad experiences in locations such as Cortona, Italy. Arts students have access to a large scholarship pool totaling over $450,000 annually.
Our graduate programs attract outstanding students from around the globe, and their talents enrich our teaching, research and campus communities.
Faculty Awards and Accomplishments
Our track record of excellent research and teaching could not happen without award-winning Faculty. In 2014, we were the recipient of an unprecedented eight University of Alberta teaching excellence awards. Arts is also home to six University Cup recipients, which is the highest honor the University of Alberta bestows on its academic staff.
