MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

I am pleased to welcome you to the University of Alberta! Whether you are a new or returning student, the year ahead presents a wealth of new and exciting opportunities. We boast a wide variety of degrees, programs and courses, taught by experts in their fields, in some of the top research and teaching facilities in the world, as well as exciting opportunities to study, work or volunteer locally or abroad.

Students from all disciplines can choose from more than 100 courses or exchanges from numerous destinations around the world. For example, you can take courses in the Arts and Humanities at our satellite campus in Cortona, Italy, or participate in an exchange program with the University of Ghana and witness life in rural Ghana firsthand.

Closer to home, we have numerous world-class facilities such as the Li Ka Shing Institute of Virology, NINT (the National Institute of Nanotechnology), and the Timms Centre for the Arts. We have cultivated an engaged community of students, staff and faculty who are committed to the uplifting of the whole people through creativity, discovery and citizenship. Our graduates are thoughtful and responsible leaders and citizens who have gone on to lead corporations and governments, perform transformative humanitarian work globally, and become world-renowned artists and musicians.

Follow in their footsteps by exploring your own opportunities and forging your own path. We are here to help you realize your dreams. I think that you will find the possibilities to be limitless.

Yours sincerely,

Indira V Samarasekera, O.C.
